Why You Should Know Your Partner’s Love Language…

I have had friends complain that they do not understand their partner or it’s the other way round. After reading on love languages I came to the conclusion that most people do not make the effort to learn their significant other’s love language which results in most break ups.

Knowing your partner’s love language will help you discern how they show their love so you can feel more appreciated. Often times it’s not that our partner doesn’t love us, it’s that they love us only in the ways that they know how to love us.

When your partner knows that you need physical touch, words of affirmation, acts of service, etc. then they can begin to show you love in the ways in which you need them to show you.

Direct communication in a relationship is so important but do you ever wish your partner could just instinctively know what you need from them when you need it? When your partner knows what your love language is, they can automatically satisfy your needs before you need to say anything.

There are five love languages which are:

  • Quality Time
  • Acts of Service
  • Words of Affirmation
  • Physical Touch
  • Receiving Gifts

These love languages give insight into what means the most to you and your partner, and also what can hurt you the most.

In a relationship, it is important to know these languages for your partner so you can make them feel loved and appreciated when they need it most. It will also give insight into why certain things may have upset them and you will have an idea of the best way to fix it.

If you’re an “Acts of Service” person dating a “Words of Affirmation” person, your partner might shower you with compliments and “I love you”s every day, but you would spend the relationship not feeling truly appreciated because they never offer to run errands or do the dishes.

Understanding your partner’s love language will help you discern how they show their love, so that you do feel loved and appreciated, knowing the way in which they give their love is different than yours.
